For those who don't know me, I live in Sofia, Bulgaria since medio 2018.

The biggest and most significant difference? The huge amount of stray animals. In Bulgaria there are little to no possibilities for these animals. Getting them off of the streets is pretty hard, since the few shelters that are here are overcrowded.

This is most probably caused my the lack of provided information. People are mostly unaware that puppies grow big and that it takes more than just petting them. The result: breeding continues, but when the pup grows it ends up on the streets.

They're left behind - they never learned to find food themselves, so naturally they try to find people in order to get food, but they only thing they get is literally a kick on their butt.

Vets also leave these animals to their destiny. Medicines and shelter costs money, but there's nobody and nothing to cover these costs. As a result the animal will die.

Ofcourse there's a city shelter, but they just bring the dog in for a night, to castrate them. The next morning they'll be thrown back on the streets where they were found, without getting any food.

Not all dogs are being found "on time" meaning new nests are born on the streets. It's like trying to fix a sunken ship with ducktape.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE DONATIONS

- Coverage of medical costs of stray animals, inclusive necessary shelter for revalidation.

- information campaigns, that will inform people better about the responsibilities and downsides of taking a pet. First on schools, in a later stage also with other media

- providing pet training for people who take a animal from the shelter. To motivate them to get a animal from the shelter. Automatically this will create more space in shelters, while decreasing the demand for breeding.

To give you an idea about the costs here: 10kg of dog food +/- 10 euro. Castration +/- 25 euro. Xray +/- 10 euro, surgery after a complicated bone fracture +/- 75 euro, daycare +/- 17,5 euro per day.

RESULTS TILL 29-01-2020

2 dogs saved and replaced - 1 cat which died during treatment. If you want to stay updated with our progress, please follow "redden zwerven of sterven" of Facebook. Translated it means: saving, straying or die.
