ZUFP Scholarship Fund

Zimbabweans United for Progress (ZUFP) is a collective effort of individuals from diverse backgrounds committed to improving the socio-economic conditions of Zimbabweans based in South Africa.

The vision of ZUFP is to become an umbrella body for all Zimbabweans in South Africa.

Part of ZUFP’s product and services offering include (i) Humanitarian Support, especially to vulnerable Zimbabweans affected by Covid-19 related lockdowns; (ii) Immigration and Social Welfare Support; and (iii) SMME and Business Support.

As part of our Social Welfare Support, ZUFP is launching the “ZUFP Scholarship Fund”, which is aimed at raising funds for Zimbabwean students who are talented and coming from poor backgrounds (with limited resources).

Our inaugural candidate is a young and brilliant Zimbabwean lady (21 years old) who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree in Industrial Psychology and Sociology at the University of the Free State. In her first-year results, she obtained 8 distinctions out of 10 modules (courses)!

This is what this young and highly intelligent young lady had to say:

“I am currently in my second year of university and my studies were previously paid for by my now deceased father who passed away in January this year (2020). Most of his saved funds were depleted during his term of illness which left very little to cover tuition costs. At the beginning of the academic year, I was in a position of possible financial exclusion due to a lack of funds. A financial merit award that was allocated to me on the basis of academic merit for my last year's results and money that was left over from the funeral expenses helped cover the registration fee. With the Covid19 pandemic, it has become even harder to try and gather funds to complete tuition fees payments. As such, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.”

There are many more young and talented Zimbabweans in similar predicaments.

As a long-term solution, ZUFP has set up a Scholarship Fund. The first R40 000.00 will go towards the fees for this young lady while the rest will go towards building a revolving ZUFP Scholarship Fund.
