Thank you for taking the time to read this... Our good friends just found out that their one year old daughter Zoe has multiple holes in her heart as well as a malformed valve called Ventricular Septal Defect with a Cleft Mitral Valve. They had taken Zoe to the doctor because she had pink eye and during that visit the doctor heard a heart murmur that had not been found prior. They were referred to a pediatric cardiologist that soon confirmed that the murmur was in fact the cleft mitral valve as well as Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Due to the size of the ventricular defect and cleft valve, open heart surgery is going to be needed.
Here is some info on her diagnosis:
The nature of (VSD) causes the oxygenated blood to mix with the deoxygenated blood and the heart has to work extremley hard to make sure the bodies organs and tissue are getting the needed oxygen. Her heart is burning so many calories to keep up with her bodies needs that she is only in the 2nd percentile in weight for children her age.
A cleft in the mitral valve can cause a significant amount of blood to "leak" or regurgitate in the heart which also causes the heart to work very hard. If left untreated the work load can become too much and cause congestive heart failure. Prolonging treatment can make the mitral valve very difficult to repair.
As a parent my heart is breaking for them and the thought of their sweet little Zoe going through such a big operation. We are asking that everyone that reads this will please pray daily for her healing and to guide the medical team as they prepare and perform the surgery. The family would also be so blessed to have your financial support to help pay for all the needed tests, labs, medications, hospital stays, surgeries, and medical care. With a privately paid health insurance plan the co pays, deductibles, and low over all coverage for something of this magnitude is over whelming and is more than one family should bear.
Please help support them in prayer and provide financial assitance to making sure Zoe's heart can be quickly and safely repaired.
Thank you so much for reading. Please share with your friends, family, and coworkers to help get her surgery funded!
