I am a 18 year old boy born in Zimbabwe. My mother died when I was 4 years old and I was left in the care of my grandmother .I was born with Fibula Hemimelia on my right leg. This means I was born with a deformity or absence of the fibula bone of the lower leg. It was short and crooked. Unfortunately my family could not afford for my operation in Zimbabwe. I had an aunt who was working as a nanny in Cape Town and I was fortunate to go to Cape Town for my operation when I was 6 years old. For me to be tall and able to walk up straight ,the doctors suggested amputation of the lower leg as I would have required lots and lots of difficult operations to correct the ankle /foot as the fibia bone /shin bone was not growing properly. After the amputation I was given a prosthetic leg and I went back to Zimbabwe. Unfortunately my family could not afford for me to go back to Cape Town for regular check ups. The current prosthetic leg I have needs to be changed and without proper documentation , I cannot be helped at the government hospital in South Africa. Also I have not been able to continue with my studies as there was no enough funds. My wish is to get a new prosthetic leg as well as studying sound engineering. If there is any well wishers that would find it in their hearts to assist me in replacing my prosthetic leg and continue my studies so that I will be ale to look after myself and old granny. I would also like to be a singer.
