ZAASO stands for Zanzibar Animal Affection Society, an animal Sanctuary started by a devoted animal lover Anna more than 10 years ago, she was witness to many donkeys being severely mistreated and overworked, and decided to try and buy the ones she could from any local who would be willing to negotiate, so that she could bring them to her piece of land and treat their injuries and illness in a safe and loving environment. However as with all things in life a hand full of rescued donkeys soon turned into a place where all animals were brought in need of care, and medical attention.Over the years ZAASO has not only used its very limited resources to help all and any animals in need, but is still the only place on Zanzibar where any animal care is available, caring not only for donkeys, but also dogs, cats, and the local villages live stock to ensure that the locals can sustain their livelihood, with the dedicated owner Anna, Tanzanian vets Dr Flavi, and Dr Abbas all without any government funding or corporate investment.
Now ZAASO needs the help to build a proper clinic, so that they can not only continue to help the 1000s of stray cats, dogs and donkeys in need of rescue, but so that they are able to grow the facility in order to offer volunteer and internships to veterinary students from around the world, allowing them to have invaluable experience and for ZAASO to create a sustainable source of income through these programs.
Please help ZAASO to provide long term care for the ones who have no voice, and often no choice on how they are treated our animals, who love unconditionally, and always give without any expectation.
