Youth in Focus

Thank you for considering sponsoring Youth in Focus, a new public service program that brings filmmaking and media literacy to the Boston urban youth in underserved communities. Youth in Focus was founded last year by a group of Harvard students who believed in filmmaking as a powerful tool to address social issues affecting our communities. Starting from this February until the end of school year, we provide 12-week-long education in media production as well as mentorship to the Boston youth in the hopes to equip them with the ability to tell stories through films and develop a creative and critical voice in their communities. This program is launched in conjunction with Press Pass TV, a Boston-based nonprofit organization focusing on media literacy and youth outreach.

In order to successfully run this program, we hold regular evaluation check-ins and meetings with mentors and workshop leaders who engage with the youth on a regular basis to debrief the program and facilitate discussions. Every semester, we also hold informational meetings where we invite any interested students from colleges to come learn about our program. In order to provide more incentive for the mentors as well as interested members of our community to come to the meetings and check-ins, we provide refreshments or light meals made possible by your support and donation. We will also use the funding to cover transportation costs ($4 for a roundtrip) for mentors and workshop leaders; purchase office supplies (binders and folders for the youth); cover printing costs for handouts and other class-related materials and buy equipments (such as digital or point-and-shoot cameras).
