I come bearing good news!!! I have been selected to be part of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations in New York. However, I do not have the funds to attend such an important gathering of young change makers from across the globe. Allow me to briefly update you on the Youth Assembly….

The Youth Assembly brings together global young leaders to tackle ground breaking solutions and foster real action for sustainable development. The YA fosters mutual understanding and collaboration between youth and key stakeholders in global development to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Throughout its history, The Youth Assembly has been a champion for the UN, serving as an essential platform to engage and mobilize youth in the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the highly participatory Post-2015 process, and the recently-adopted 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Why is this opportunity important to me?

The Youth Assembly is incredibly important to me because – it is an annual gathering of young, diverse agents of change from around the world who are advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Put differently, the Youth Assembly is a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with other young change makers and share ideas and strategies on how to tackle issues facing humanity. For example, how can we best approach the issue of poverty, improving rights and access for girls and women, securing environmental sustainability and how do we go about fostering youth inclusion in areas such as education, employment, health among other pressing issues. Furthermore, I am confident that such an experience at the Youth Assembly will intensely expand my knowledge, skills and ability to positively impact South Africa, Africa and the world!

Robin Sharma once said, “the greatest leaders are carpenters of human spirits”, this quote-in essence-sums up my mission here on earth. Without a shadow of a doubt, I believe that I was created to serve people and positively impact their lives. It is a bit idealistic, I know, but I’d like to change the world. I have a deep inner desire to contribute to making the world a better place, be it through academic, political, infrastructure, technological or sociological advances. I am an individual who seeks to put such impulses to action in order to see change become a reality.

However, the impact that I want to make requires me to gain the necessary tools. I strongly believe that attending the Youth Assembly at the United Nations will enable me to possess the specific knowledge that I need to implement my goals. I believe that such an experience will sharpen me so that I may continue to act as a change agent for society, seizing opportunities that others miss to improve, invent new approaches and create solutions to change society for the better. I strongly believe that my involvement in the Youth Assembly is instrumental in equipping me for the roles I will take on in terms of my career. As someone who is passionate about Africa, I believe there is a positive contribution that I can make as a Public official/servant in South Africa and Africa. As an African woman that functions within a global context and is passionate about global governance, I foresee myself as the Executive Director and Head of United Nations Women. Ultimately, I plan to be the Secretary General of the United Nations.

Details about the project

This is where I need your help. In order to attend the Youth Assembly, I need to raise about R25 000 to cover my travel and accommodation expenses… Thankfully, I have been able to pay for the administration fee and I am in the process of getting my Visa. However, I do need assistance as it pertains to my travel and accommodation expenses.

Below is a video i did to assist in raising funds. Please have a look.
