Campaign Story
Good day, blessed people from all around the world.
I hope all of you are keeping well and healthy.
It took me a while to finally decide and reach out to you as I feel that I need to do something to help a family friend after exhausting all the possible resources I have (reaching out to all our common friends, charity institutions and joined fund raising campaign organized by our common friends).
Cristina Adriano Laguilles is a wife and mother of 2. Since she have to look after 2 kids Cristina is not working at the moment and is under husband’s sponsorship. She is currently under mental stress looking after her 2 kids (4 years old and 5 mos old infant) and a husband who is unwell and was unconscious for 3 months but is now recovered after a long health battle.
Ronnel Laguilles is Cristina’s husband and a sole provider for a family of 3 (wife and 2 kids). Ronnel was confined in the hospital for 5 months from January 20 and was away from his family.
And all this too happen while Cristina is on her 28 weeks of pregnancy to their 2nd baby.
Morning of January 20, 2020, Ronnel experienced excruciating stomach pains. He got hospitalized the same day in NMC -Al Qusais, Dubai, UAE and went into surgery (laparoscopy) the next day for gall stone and gall bladder removal. He got discharged the following day.
With all the stress happened it has taken toll on Cristina's pregnancy and resulted in preterm delivery.
While their 2nd baby is confined in N.I.C.U. at Aster Al Nahda, Dubai UAE to support his development until he reaches 35 weeks, Ronnel on the other side had another severe pain attack early morning of February 12.
He was rushed again to NMC Hospital - Al Qusais, Dubai UAE and there he was diagnosed with acute biliary pancreatitis. Through ERCP they removed three more stones that slipped off his biliary duct. After that procedure his vitals went critical and he needs to stay in ICU for close monitoring and observation. During the course of CT’s and blood test they found a liquid collection in his pancreas and he had complications i.e. pneumonia and acute kidney failure. He had several procedures to drain the fluid collection and got intubated. He showed great improvements after that and he’s weaned off the ventilator.
Because of the series of procedures at the time that he stayed in ICU, Ronnel’s company provided health insurance got exhausted and accumulated an amount of AED 80,014.43 = $21,784 on top of the annual cap limit.
Despite of no monthly income and with the help of people within the couples circle Cristina managed to make a deposit of AED 3,000 = $861 in total due to the pressure from the hospital's billing department on Ronnel's increasing hospital bill.
March 5, Ronnel was discharged provided that Cristina's passport will be deposited in the hospital and Cristina has to issue a cheque guarantee (amounting to AED 77,014.43 = $20,968) along with the duly filled Guarantor Promissory Note.
Cristina made further negotiation to NMC’s Administration, thus the bill got reduced and the remaining balance as of now is still AED 61, 449.60 = $16,730.
Within a week of being discharged from the hospital Ronnel again suffered with high fever for three consecutive days despite of giving him medicines.
He was rushed back to NMC for his follow up checkup. The doctors suspects that he’s having another infection and thus needs to be admitted to be observed and to do several tests.
Since Ronnel's insurance got maxed out, the hospital requires a initial admission deposit amounting to AED 10,000= $2722 in which Cristina couldn't provide as the family's income was stopped from the time Ronnel got hospitalized and they have exhausted all their life savings to meet all ongoing expenses of the whole family.
Cristina sure enough couldn't arrange the deposit with very limited time in her hands, March 12, she decided to bring Ronnel to Rashid Hospital- Government Hospital in Dubai UAE and they immediately admit him.
Ronnel this time was diagnose with necrotizing pancreatitis, a very invasive health condition and it requires close monitoring and observation to treat any complications.
He had series of blood tests and CT scans, they found multiple fluid collections surrounding his pancreas thus they placed a drain to remove all those collections. He also had acute kidney failure which was being treated accordingly. With constant scanning and monitoring of his blood showing infections,
April 8 Ronnel's Dr decided to do a surgery to remove necrosis on his pancreas. This will help in avoiding other good tissues being infected. The doctors said there was an improvement and his infection marker is getting lower each day.
April 24, Ronnel felt another pain on his abdomen and he started vomiting, they did another series of scans and blood tests, and they found out that he has a colon obstruction.
April 28, he undergo an emergency surgery. Since his colon (large intestine) is unhealthy they have to remove majority of it. Due to the severity of the infection they did not manage to close his abdomen immediately. He had an Ileostomy, placed under sedation, stayed in ICU and got intubated once again.
Every after 48 hours they are bringing him back to the Operation Theatre to check the condition inside his abdomen. During the second attempt they even found an unhealthy part of his small intestine and they made another resection. The doctors have done a total of 11 operations on his abdomen including washing and draining.
Only last May 25 when they finally closed his abdomen. He is on his way to recovery and was moved to the ward.
After a month of recovery, last June 25 he was advised by the doctors that he is clinically okay to be discharged.
Ronnel's 5 months health battle has accumulated a bill of AED 777,065.61 = $ 211,563 in Rashid Hospital and a pending bill of AED 61, 449.60 = $16,730 in NMC Hospital.
Unfortunately, Ronnel's company is not ready to pay for the accumulated amount and thus the couple end up in despair.
Ronnel have won his health battle but now struggling to first meet ends in the absence of income and to pay for his hospitalization expenses.
Laguilles family battle is not over but they are determined to win for the sake of their 2 beautiful children.
Apparently, Cristina couldn’t search for a job now due to ongoing pandemic plus she is left alone to care for 2 children and a husband.
Its been a roller coaster ride for Laguilles family. Please help me make this an easy ride even on rough roads.
I couldn’t help but pray and think of ways how to help. I have read a lot of successful interventions of GoGetFunding and I’m confident that with GoGetFunding posting this it will reach to a maximum read and that it will definitely reach people who is capable to help at this point of time where everyone is also facing its own battle.
