Please aid us in patching the hole in Youone’s heart.
Meet our daughter, Youone Kei (First Blessing), 12 from Quezon City, Philippines.
She’s a consistent student honor, she graduated Primary Education with High Honors. She joined glee club in school, majorette flag twirling and play’s xylophone. Just like other kids loves such as biking, basketball and outdoors activities. She’s very active and determined and a loving daughter and sister to her brother. We know that a great and successful future awaits her.
Unfortunately, her active youthful life changed. Her activities are now kept under control. It was last week of February 2017 when she was confined due to Dengue Fever, due to her weakened immune system she was monitored all day and night. Coping up with Dengue virus isn't easy for her. Her fragile body was weak and complained of severe headaches while having high fever and severe joint and muscle pain. Seeing and hearing her pain doubled my agony as her mom. Her Platelet Count was down to 65 and skin rashes appeared on her 5th day at the hospital. It was a week before her Complete Blood Count was stabilized but it doesn’t stop there.
We were advised by her doctors that they can hear a whooshing sound/murmur in her heart, they waited until her temperature becomes normal thinking that the sound maybe due to her current state, but then the murmur is still strong so they ask to have her undergo Chest X-ray and Echocardiography to validate the sound they heard. Honestly, we as parent are very confident that there's nothing wrong with our first born's heart for there was never an instance she either complained or shown symptoms of anything that would imply such ailment.
I accompanied her to the laboratory for her Chest X-ray followed by Echocardiography the following day. We eagerly wait to hear the result that it's negative so we can then go home. After a day, the results were given. Youone was diagnosed of Atrial Septal Defects (ASD). There’s a hole in the center of her heart. This defect allows oxygen-rich blood to leak into the oxygen-poor blood chambers in the heart which made her Right side of the heart dominant. We as parents couldn't believe what the doctors are explaining, a lot of questions are running in our mind but we're unable to voice it out, we're seems to be stubbed by the news leaving our faces pale and shocked. Her case is asymptomatic, which explains why there was never a sign that she has heart ailment condition. It was further discussed to us but it pains us more knowing the situation and probability of the diagnosis. All that we know is that our daughter needs a heart operation as soon as possible. Being strong in front of her is another battle.
Her Pedia-Cardio told us there are 2 options for Youone's operation. We can choose from either Open Heart surgery or Transcatheter Closure of Atrial Septal Defect which will depend upon Transesophageal echocardiographic examination result (TEE). The cost of heart operation is overwhelming. We are desperately asking for assistance in raising the quoted amount for her operation.
After all this she’s very positive and always tells us that she’s ok. She envisioned herself as Chef who could feed people or an Architect who could help other in building their homes. Her heart is crystal for she knows the value of giving and paying it forward.
Help us patch the Hole in Youone's heart, and may God bless your kindness a thousandfold.
