Changing My Life and Others Through Yoga

I am a Cambodian man from a poor family of the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I had to drop out of school at the age of 15 years old, to find work and earn income to

support my family. I worked as a waiter, a construction worker, a seller and many other

jobs .. it was a dark period of my life.. I always felt depressed and hopeless and my

every day goal was just to make it to the day’s end.

I used to sit in front of the window, stare into the view and feel the emptiness of my life. I

felt a lot of stress, and this made me sick to a point when I couldn’t work anymore and

could not support my family financially anymore, which made me even more anxious. It

was like a spiraling despair, I do not know how to get out of it..

And one day.. my life began to change: an NGO, called EYC (Empowering Youth in

Cambodia) approached me with a wonderful opportunity to study English for free and

also to take yoga lessons with teachers from Krama Yoga Cambodia. I fell in love with

yoga! And not only did I learn yoga, but Krama Yoga also offered to train me to become

a yoga teacher, through a program called “Body Smart Life Skill.” These opportunities

gave me hope and gave a sense to my life. They helped me become me who I am

today.

And today, I am a full time yoga teacher, keeping yoga as a daily practice to remain

healthy, and to be a better person every day. I also earning a good living that enable me

to help my mother.

I believe that if yoga was able to change my life, it surely can influence many more

people to further improve their lives. And so in my work as a kids yoga teacher, I know I

have a role to encourage the younger ones to follow this path. I teach in various NGO

working with kids, including of course at EYC which in the first place, gave me the

opportunity to change my life. Kids have fun, and they also learn discipline and improve

their capacity mentally and physically.

I like to bring yoga to people. I also provide free yoga lessons to the adults along the

city riverside early morning every day from 6am. This allows others to have a good yoga

practice to start their day.

I am eager to further improve my yoga to continue to share my knowledge and help

others. But being a yoga teacher means that one needs to continue learning. And so I

need to continue my training with my teacher in Kho Samui, Thailand, where I

completed the foundation of yoga training.

This year, I wish to extend my training by completing 300 hours of teacher training at

the same center, the Samhita training center. The training is six weeks and will cost

$7,035USD. During this six weeks period, I will learn more about anatomy, asana,

philosophy and pranayama.

I cannot pay for this whole amount of money by myself and I am seeking for support. I

am grateful for any help.

I hope the above introduction helps you better understand my purpose – both for myself

and for others – and provides you a clear view of the objective of my fundraising. Please

feel free to email me if you have further questions.

NAMASTE. Thank you.
