Hello generous givers!
My name is Katie and I work as a case manager for homeless families in San Francisco. I am also a certified yoga therapist thanks to Guruji Omanand Baweja at Paramanand Institute for Yoga Sciences in Indore, India. I have recently been given an amazing opportunity to use both of my gifts together and teach my clients yoga to help them let go of the heavy physical trauma they carry around on a daily basis.
Once a week, my clients will have the option to slow down, tune in to their bodies, and escape the constant stress that accompanies homelessness. I will be teaching them different techniques to address their traumas which, over the years, have been stored in their physical bodies. If all goes well, I hope to teach them to let go of that physcal pain and restore a natural flow of positive energy.
Many of these clients have severe physical limitations and I will need to prepare a great deal of modifications, especially in the beginning. This will, obviously, require a great deal of props... of which I have none.
I have done the research and am shocked to find that it will cost me approximately $100/person to supply mats, blocks, bolsters, straps, eye pillows, and blankets in order to create a comfortable experience for my clients. I hope to invite them into an environment that feels positive and doable, if its too difficult to begin with, I wont hold on to them for long!
Any and all donations are appreciated not only by myself but by the many clients I will work with who crave just one hour a week where they can let go and simply breath.
Thank you for your time and donations!

Thank you for taking a risk to ask for contributions in order to do something you are passionate about - specifically relief of trauma and stress through yoga and meditation, for folks who may not have access to that skill otherwise. Fundraising for service work feels intimidating to me, so I'm grateful for the inspiration. Sincerely, Meaghan
