Even if I grow up as a single orphan and I was rejected of my biological father I always had a heart of helping others. This got me working with children living on the streets under Save Street Children Uganda (SASCU) a child rights agency for over five years.
During the five years of rescuing children living on the streets, rehabilitating them and reintegrating them back into their original communities, i realised the very children now turned into youth were facing the same challenge of unemployment i faced for a number of years before i got the opportunity to work with SASCU.
This propelled me into thinking of ways how this challenge of unemployment among the youth could sustainably be reduced, hence in November 2015 starting Sustainable Youth Development Foundation (SYDF) a Community Based Organisation whose theory of change is to combat unemployment among the youth through hands on skills training and development.
The first year of SYDF was so rough that i even separated with my long time girlfriend who is also the mother of son, and all my first office items due to failure to pay rent. The second year i picked myself back up, rented new office premises which host the skills training center code named "Reach the Girl Child Skills Development Center". On top of equipping the youth with different employable hands on skills, SYDF now produces products like " Obutonde Eco Bags" (paper bags) and "No Shame Sanitary Pads" (reusable) to generate income for sustainability. Its from this background that SYDF seeks to raise 20 million Uganda shillings to buy at least 2 arcs of land as a sustainability plan for the skills center and offices to be built on this land together with farming income generating projects.
