yemeni kids need help

I'm doing this campaign to support the raising awareness campaign on rabies among school age children in Yemen that will be done by the YemAid healthcare association https://m.facebook.com/yemaid in the period between 28th of september and 30th of september 2019.

Rabies cases have recently increased in Yemen due to the current unstable situation and the rapid uncontrolled reproduction of stray dogs. This has actually affected both urban and suburban.Tragically, Children were most often involved in the attacks by rabies-positive animal. 56.1% of children ≤10 years of age were bitten, of those 73.3% were attacked by rabid animals. An annual report of the NRCP in Yemen , indicated that more than two- thirds of the rabies deaths were among children.

This is mostly referred to the fact that Yemeni children spend more time outdoors, face animals alone, provoke animals and are less able to protect themselves. Being smaller than the adults they are also more likely to receive a bite in the face or neck which hastens transmission of the virus to the central nervous system as those children are less likely to report bites or scratches received during play.

The campaign is based on the following targets:

• Raise awareness and promote education about rabies among School age children.
• Protect dogs by increasing vaccination and develop culture of animal adoption .
• Provide the health centre of rabies control in Dhamar by PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) vaccine to save lives of children who got bitten by dogs and cannot offer to buy the PEP vaccine.

The rabies awareness campaign is intended to take place on the 28th of September 2019 targeting three schools in the governorate of Dhamar due to its highest reported rabies incidence and will last for three days.

This will definitely partakes in the main goal of Zero Rabies by 2030.
