Xena is our precious little local Hong Kong cat adopted 4 years ago. She has always been a very sweet and playful cat whose resilience has always impressed us.

For some time she has been having very serious breathing issues and we always thought it was due to feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR) as she has been tested positive with this when she was little and the vet suspected it was likely this reason. Several months passed and she was getting worse to the point of not being able to breathe much at all and constantly struggling with inflammation. We also found some blood in her nostrils which had me super worried.

We immediately took her to the vet again and insisted on doing more tests to get to the bottom of this. We did all tests imaginable and our suspicions were proven right, she had a polyp that was causing a massive infection inside her ear and nose and unfortunately she required a more serious surgery known as a bulla osteotomy, this involves the complete removal of the ear canal and tympanic bulla (middle ear). If left untreated the polyp could grow pressing into her brain and causing the bacterial infection to develop into meningitis which is deathly.

The cause of it is unknown though it may be congenital, and the vet said it could even be recurrent though if the surgery is done well, the probability should not be so high.

Thankfully the surgery went well but the costs of all of this was unexpectedly high and continuous to grow upwards to over 75,000 HKD as we have to continuously monitor and do more frequent vet checks and a variety of medications.

We would be eternally grateful if we could receive any help or if you could share this post. This really means everything to us as we would do anything to save her.
