People are still very generously sending in donations, all these donations over and above the cost of the chamber will be used for private neuro physiotherapy sessions and other therapies we feel will benefit Xavi
Xavi had a very traumatic introduction to this world. During birth he sustained a fractured skull, which caused a large bleed on his brain, oxygen deprivation, seizures and unconsciousness. It then took the medical team 19 minutes to resuscitate him, followed by five weeks in intensive care.
All of which resulted in permanent brain damage.
Xavi currently has feeding issues, delayed development, hypertonia and an extremely high risk of cognitive and behavioural issues.
But there is hope and it comes in the shape of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT.
A HBOT chamber is a full body chamber inside which 100% oxygen is circulated at high pressure.
This enables large quantities to dissolve into the blood enabling extra oxygen to reach damaged tissues, super charging the healing process.
What does HBOT mean for Xavi?
Some of Xavi’s injured brain tissues are “dormant” and non-functioning. HBOT can stimulate these tissues and return them to more normal function. In young children with brain injuries, HBOT can improve cognitive function and skeletal muscle performance. Receiving this treatment NOW could hugely improve Xavi’s quality of life.
The sooner Xavi receives this treatment, the best chance he has of it helping him. That’s why we’re urgently seeking donations to help us buy Xavi a HBOT chamber, something which is not covered by the NHS. A second-hand chamber costs in the region of £6500. We need as much help as we can get, otherwise it won’t be possible for us to provide this opportunity for Xavi.
