The Malaysian Institute for Debate and Public Speaking (MIDP) is raising funds for the Malaysian National Team to participate the World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) 2018 held in Zagreb, Croatia on the 17th of July - 27th of July 2018!
What is the WSDC?
The WSDC (dubbed "The Olympics of Competitive Debating for Schools) is the world's most prestigious debating championship for schools, where each country is represented by a team. These teams will apply their ability to critically think, communicate effectively and discuss important issues relevant to the 21st Century, all done while holding up their national flags with pride. 50 countries participated in the championship in Bali WSDC 2017.
Where is Malaysia in WSDC?
Malaysia is no stranger to WSDC. They've made waves since 2010 and have always been strong competitors of WSDC. They have dedicated themselves to be better, tirelessly working hard. These talented debaters have spent every single one of their weekends debating in national competitions, training for countless of hours, preparing over hundreds of cases, reading the news and the economist day-in and day-out and thinking of ways to perfect their craft twenty four-seven.
Through the countless of time spent dreaming of the championship, they have constantly made Malaysians proud over the years. Their achievements over the years are as follows:

Who is WSDC Team Malaysia 2018?
In December 2017, the search was on for the members of Team Malaysia to compete in WSDC 2018. With applicants from all over Malaysia, we had the first set of selections on the 17th of December 2017 to identify 10 talented individuals who would be undergoing comprehensive training together throughout 2018 running up to the competition.
On the 12th of May 2018, the second set of selections took place to select the final cut of 5 individuals of the 10, who will be attending Croatia WSDC 2018. After long hours of debating and discussions amongst the selectors of Team Malaysia, Team Malaysia 2018 will be represented by:

4. Ling Vee Nis
5. Quah Po Eic

Why fund WSDC Team Malaysia?
With all of their hard work put in, the team should constantly have the opportunity to participate in WSDC. As citizens who have a vested interest in the development of the youth to acquire these critical skills, this would be an opportunity for us to make a difference in the lives of Team Malaysia and contribute to their ability to participate in WSDC 2018.
Apart from that, WSDC Team Malaysia 2018 has also set a standard for what the youth should strive towards in their development. By ensuring that WSDC Team Malaysia participate in WSDC 2018, donors will also have the ability to ensure that this standard is upheld in order for many future debaters to have a goal for them to reach. This will aid in the development of the future generation of students in Malaysia.
Moreover, by ensuring Team Malaysia does well in the WSDC, you will be able to contribute to the significant presence of our beloved country Malaysia on the international stage in the most prestigious debating championship in the world for schools.
All proceeds will be purely to cover the registration fees of WSDC 2018 and their flights to Zagreb, Croatia. The break down is as follows:
RM 2,700.00 x 7 participants* = RM 18,900.00
Return Flights to Zagreb, Croatia:
RM 3,000.00 x 7 participants* = RM 21,000.00
TOTAL: RM 18,900.00 + RM 21,000.00 = RM 39,900.00
RM 39,900.00 = 10,010.00 USD
*As per the policies of WSDC, each Country must be accompanied by atleast 2 adjudicators.
This campaign seeks to champion the development of debating among the youths in Malaysia, and it needs the support of as many Malaysians as possible. Team Malaysia would be heartened and will have the gratitude of all those who contribute to their development and objective to prove Malaysia as a force to reckon with.
