I want to start by saying, thank you for taking your time to read my campaign and consideration in donating. God Bless you all.
My name is Raven Marlett, and I am a single disabled mother of four. My two oldest are 22 and 21, and live on their own in other states. I have full custody of my two youngest daughters, ages 16 and 9. Despite every effort I could possibly make, their fathers choose not to be in their lives. So, I am both the mother and father. This proves challenging, but my children are my whole world. My 9 yr old is Autistic and an Eloper, which has added to the challenge, but I am constantly in awe over her.
So, our world got turned upside down, when my landlords decided to evict me, for withholding rent. I withheld rent from them, because I had 3 1/2 months straight of issues with my water heater and severe water leaks under our 3 bedroom 2 bath mobile home. I repeatedly had to call them out to fix issues and they would claim to have fixed it, and it would be leaking or not working again within a day or two. My electric and water bills skyrocketed and I was unable to pay the electric bills and my rent. Since it wasn’t my fault and I needed electric and water for my daughters.
I opted to pay the Electric bills that ranged from $400 to $615 each month. They were previously around $140 to $150 a month. When I complained and showed proof of my outrageous bills, they blamed it on me, for being disabled and home 24/7. So on June 17th, 2019 at 10am in the morning, a Sheriff arrived, along with the landlord and some guys. I was given 24 hours to vacate, per the judges orders, after I had begged for more time, but was denied.
We have zero family here in Florida and the Family Shelter has been beyond full, with a waiting list, since Hurricane Michael last year. So I had no choice but to stay in hotels. We spent the first night in the car, in our churches parking lot. I could barely sleep, as I was distraught over losing everything I had worked hard to make over the last few years. The only belongings we could take, was some clothes, our service dog, Rosie, and blankets/pillows. Everything we owned got thrown out to the side of the road, in the rain.
The next day our pastor got approval to pay for two nights hotel. I have been using my disability money, the girls state aid money, favors and occasional donations from friends, strangers, family and my hard earned money from driving for UberEats and DoorDash. I have been in and out of the hospital with heart issues and infections. I also have now fractured my left ankle about 6 weeks ago. Despite all this, I am forced to work every day or night, driving for UberEats and DoorDash. So I can pay for our hotel and food. I have to work with a boot on my left leg, so it’s not healing like it should.
My body is wearing down quickly after 2 1/2 months of being homeless. We have lost out on several great places, due to the eviction going onto my credit, not even 3 weeks after the judge signed the order. I used to drive for Lyft and made much better money, but since it got so hot here in Tallahassee, I haven’t been able to drive for Lyft, due to my A/C not working in my car.
I have a plan that would work, but it requires me to own a SUV with working A/C that is 2007 or newer and in good condition. So I can drive for Lyft/LyftXL and make 4 times more money and get off of my fractured foot. I have tried to get approved for an SUV, but they want me to get a co-signer or a down payment of $3,000 or more. I have found a mobile home that I can purchase for $5,000, with lot rent of $495 a month. Or I can get into a place with the eviction on my record, but the monthly rent is more than I can afford on my meager disability income.
I have so much more to say and explain, but I don’t want to write a book. I am happy to show proof of anything you require, if you need. I would be extremely grateful for your help with any donation and prayers
