Campaign Story
Hello Everyone,
I am a writer who has written a fantastic Native American novel. I've also been parenting solo for 16 years, which left me little time to really fuel my career as an emerging writer. I graduated with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing three years ago, exactly when our economy bottomed out. For a writer that has meant many publishing houses closing, and agents becoming inundated with hundreds of manuscripts a day, which equals minimal opportunity to expose my writing.
For the first time ever, I have this most unexpected chance to attend a writer's retreat for one week that comes with the opportunity to share my work with agents & editors. Also, one of my favorite authors will be teaching during this retreat which makes this, for me, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Most importantly, I'd like to do something that will make my daughter (who is also an artist) proud that her Mom can thrive and achieve, slaying the dragon of this recession.
It is rare for an emerging writer to have an audience with an agent or editor face to face nowadays. Yes a writer can self-publish, however, getting published the traditional way opens the door to a writing career that comes with a living wage, access to health benefits, and more credibility in the publishing world.
I need in total for travel expenses, lodging, food/materials & the cost of the retreat a total of $1,000. And yes, I have about a week to raise the money! Anyone who donates will receive recognition on my new website, and some will receive a free autographed copy of the novel when it is finally published.
Thank you for taking the time to read my fundraiser pledge, and I appreciate your participation on my journey to becoming the next great American writer!
