The West Plains Area Youth Special Athletes' basketball team the "Boltz" competed in the Special Olympics Regional Tournament on March 22, 14. The team won Silver and on May 29, 14, they will be traveling to Columbia MO to compete in the Special Olympics State Championship. This is a sports team for the West Plains area youth with disabilities. This is a unified team, which means we have non-diabled athletes completeing on the team as athletes with disabiliities. We are not sponsored by the school, and we are a brand new team this year, so we have not had the time to set up fundraising events, such as bake sales or a car wash to raise the money to travel to Columbia. This money will be used to rent vehicles to transport the athletes to Columbia, money for meals, pay for gas, hotel rooms etc. for this trip. Any extra money will be put in an account for future sport seasons and competitions.
