Campaign Story
World Speech Day 2017 was celebrated through live speaking events in some 80 nations across the globe.
Now the challenge is to build out from that extraordinary achievement.
This project will involve schools across Ghana in public speaking activities, developing towards their widespread participation in World Speech Day 2018. The campaign will also support and celebrate Ghanaian literature.
The campaign will be run by Ghanaians, headed by Samuel Osei Mensah, well known writer and radio journalist.
Samuel and his team will visit schools and set up public speaking programs, currently missing in many parts of the education system.
Samuel says:
"The idea is to teach the schools the benefits of speeches and speech making. We plan to create mini WSD groups in these schools so that it becomes easier to get the celebration and attention going.
Already, some schools have debating clubs amongst other as well as speech related clubs, but they aren't active or let me say focused on a particular goal. With our guide and that of some public speakers we can help them make meaning from these clubs and of course it will also go a long way to helping them academically.
When it comes to schools with speech and debating clubs, we will liaise with them and help them focus on certain activities that will boost their confidence. I believe if we can reach our goal of getting these schools actively involved, we will be a step closer to making WSD a national idea - and then we can approach the Presidency."
