Campaign Story
My daughter is a 15 year old student and is studying for her GCSE's which she will take next year, 2014. Once she has finished, she would like to do the World Challenge Maya Route expedition. This is a once in a life-time opportunity not only to explore the land of the Maya but have the opportunity to visit ancient cities, and learn about the astonishing Mayan civilisation.
This trip is not a holiday, it is run by a recognised charity and once there participants will be helping by assisting in community projects. World Challenge develop sustainable projects that will continue to benefit the communities they work with long after the students have left. The type of project depends to some degree on the destination and the community’s needs at the time but teams might help build basic amenities in remote villages, renovate classrooms or work in wildlife sanctuaries. Whatever they do the volunteers will benefit the community they are in and have the amazing opportunity of seeing and participating in a way of life far removed from their own; a truly eye opening experience!
My daughter's school is helping her and her friends to organise fundraising events, but with a target of £3,800 she will need all the assistance she can get. This amount includes, flights, transfers within the destination, accommodation at either hostels or in tents, and food. She will need to provide for any spending money.
I am a single parent raising two children so money is very tight. I hope that you feel my daughter, and her wish to take this trip, is worth a donation. Any amount will be gratefully received.
Thank you for taking the time to read my request.
