Campaign Story
Workshops on Tolerance for Bulgarian students
Youth For Understanding Bulgaria - YFU Bulgaria - is preparing to offer another year of “Colored Glasses” workshops on tolerance to Bulgarian high school students. “Colored Glasses” consists of a series of workshops on topics like stereotypes and prejudices, discrimination and racism, cultural understanding, culture and ethnocentrism. The interactive workshops, which last 2 to 5 hours each, include role plays, groupwork, energizers and brainstorming – all aiming at making the workshops educational as well as enjoyable. The workshops are used to reduce the fear of the unknown. They aim to arouse the participants’ curiosity for the new and the different. ”Colored Glasses” offers different perspectives in order to sensitise the participants for intercultural understanding and values like tolerance and acceptance. Although increasingly essential for personal growth and the development of an active civil society, these important topics are very rarely integrated into a typical Bulgarian high school program.
A typical workshop is run by 3 to 4 volunteer trainers (teamers). To be able to respond to all workshop requests from secondary schools (60 workshops all over Bulgaria in 2014/15) we need a pool of at least 20 teamers. To start off the new cycle of workshops we will have to train the future teamers in a weekend training. This training will cost appr. 2000 Euro.
Your donation will support personal growth of young volunteers, enhance volunteerism and contribute to a civil society in Bulgaria.
