£340.00raised of £600.00 goal goal
I’m taking the plunge and solo-travelling to volunteer at an animal shelter in Portugal’s capital. In many European countries there is an overpopulation of stray dogs and cats, along with an increasing number of pets being abandoned or thrown out. During my time here I will be caring for and providing medical treatment to animals brought to the shelter, as well as helping with the general maintenance & upkeep of the facilities. This includes neutering strays, cleaning kennels, rebuilding fences & runs, and socialising animals in the hopes they can be adopted. I will also be spending time with locals to educate & raise awareness for the welfare of animals, supporting adoption events & drawing online attention to their profiles to increase chance of rehoming.
Whilst the UK has relatively high welfare standards for cats&dogs, my aim is to help improve the consideration and mindset towards these animals abroad. A lot of shelters are overcrowded & underfunded, and so many animals are in desperate need of help. Any support for my trip would be greatly appreciated. I’ll be staying in basic shared hostel accommodation & will be experiencing the less glamorous but authentic side of Portuguese living. Funds raised will go towards volunteer-related expenses, my awareness campaigns whilst out there, and towards the running of the shelter. This venture is not a holiday by any means, but a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the living&health conditions of those who can’t ask for help.
I shall be uploading footage of the work I’m doing whilst there in the hope to encourage others to go out and make a difference where you can.
Thankyou for reading & your kind donations will be very much appreciated by myself and my new 4-legged friends :)
