Hello I have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and that is when I realised that there is not allot of doctors who understand it in my country. I went on the internet and found a lot of support groups and awareness groups but unfortunately none where I live but I did find a few women with the same syndrome. We then did some research and decided we want to start a group for women with PCOS. We want to give them the support they need as well as start spreading the word about PCOS and get people to understand it. It is not an easy thing to life with especially if they tell you it causes infertility but also many other problems. Many women goes into depression. I did not have any support the first few months and I did not know what to do until I met with a few other women who experienced the same feelings. As soon as you get that support, you start to get a new fighting spirit. My journey to become a PCOS Diva may be familiar to you. In my teens, I began to suffer with the symptoms of PCOS including hirsutism, weight gain, irregular cycles, and acne. My symptoms carried on to where getting pregnant is mentally and physically challenging. I felt hopeless and out of control- a victim of my own body. I am 21 years old and I am getting married soon but I almost lost my Fiancé because I could not handle the domestics and started to fall into depression. I pushed everyone away because they did not understand what I was going through and no one can tell you it is not that bad until they go through it themselves. I want other women to have the support they need and some treatments are not cheap so we want to help people who need treatment pay for it as well. A little more about PCOS Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders found in women, affecting approximately 10% of women worldwide, with less than 50% of them diagnosed. The syndrome is present throughout a woman’s life from puberty through post-menopause and affects women of all races and ethnic groups. Women with PCOS wrestle with an array of possible symptoms. Far-reaching health implications such as increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes make these already stressful symptoms even more daunting. Infertility (not able to get pregnant) because of not ovulating. In fact, PCOS is the most common cause of female infertility. Infrequent, absent, and/or irregular menstrual periods Hirsutism (HER-such-its-um) — increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes Cysts on the ovaries Acne, oily skin, or dandruff Weight gain or obesity, usually with extra weight around the waist Male-pattern baldness or thinning hair Patches of skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs that are thick and dark brown or black Skin tags — excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area Pelvic pain Anxiety or depression Sleep pane — when breathing stops for short periods of time while asleep. I want to help other women live a happy normal life even with PCOS that is possible.
