Women Perfect Vision

Women Perfect Vision was first setup by a woman called ‘Happy’ to support and empower women living with HIV in Arusha, Tanzania.

The group consists of 10 women, affectionately referred to as ‘Mamas’, most of whom are HIV positive or else living with family members who have HIV. Living with HIV is made all the more difficult for the ‘Mamas’ as they do their best to thrive in an environment of hardship, trying their best to raise their families and deal with the discrimination towards HIV positive women in their society.

At times, daily life can become overwhelming stressful for these women, therefore ‘Women Perfect Vision' acts as financial and emotional support group for the ‘Mamas’.
These 10 women get together everyday for 1 year and it is here that they can learn and express their worries without any judgement. Their day consists of English, Health and Business classes with the aim of empowering each woman to become independent for herself and her family.

After the classes they work together to make clothes and jewellery which they sell at markets. The money they earn through this not only financially supports themselves but also those in the community who are in dire need. Twice a week the Mamas visit the homes of those who are too ill to leave the house or need immediate help. They bring food and medicine from the money earned and offer hope and encouragement to members of their community.

The focus of the ‘Mamas’ is the first empower and encourage one another through education and listening, and secondly to spread this support and encouragement to those who at times feel as if there is no hope.
