Women Development for Science and Technology Association (WODSTA) is an NGO based in Arusha, Tanzania. Since 1990, WODSTA has worked to support and empower women and their communities through gender equitable and sustainable development initiatives.
With your donation, we will be able to reach more women and provide more resources to the communities around Arusha with respect to these projects. Please see below for a sample of the work WODSTA does in the Arusha community.
A sample of WODSTA projects include:
1) Land Rights- WODSTA is providing trainings to teach women about their constitutional right to own, use, and divide land. In Tanzania, land ownership is key to economic independence and sustainability for women, but traditional practices and a lack of knowledge about Tanzanian land ownership laws often prevent women from taking advantage of their right to own land. WODSTA is working to inform and empower women of this right so that they are able to buy or inherit land and use their land to support their families.
2) Brick Cook Stoves - WODSTA is assisting communities in Arusha in constructing brick cook stoves. These cook stoves use less firewood and produce less smoke than conventional wood stoves. Through using the new brick cook stoves, there is less damage to the environment as less wood is collected, and cooks experience less smoke related health effects as a result of the production of less smoke.
3) Entrepreneurship - WODSTA provides workshops and trainings for women to learn how to start and improve their own small business. Through owning their own business, Tanzanian women are able to become more economically independent and assist in providing for their families.
