SAFE MOTHER & BABY CAMPAIGN PROJECT (USHER POLYCLINIC, ACCRA) 26TH AUG, 2016

INTRODUCTION

Researches have shown that the high rate of maternal and infant mortality is due lack of antenatal checkups, education and lack of money to do routine maternal checkups. With Ghana's maternal mortality ratio currently at 319 per 100,000 live births and the Neonatal mortality rate at 29 per 1000 live births it is without a doubt that the government, health agencies and organizations would have to do more in order to achieve the country’s millennium development goals 4 and 5 of improving maternal health.

TARGET GROUP

We aim to reach out to needy pregnant women in poorer and rural areas. This is to encourage antenatal visit in these areas. Many women die or lose their babies needlessly sometimes just because they did not visit a hospital or health center during pregnancy. Others still hold onto old traditions such as taking certain herbal concoctions which can be harmful to them and their unborn babies and others prefer home birth which can end with many complications. It is these reasons why we believe education plays a major role in reducing maternal and infant mortality rate especially in the poorer suburbs and rural areas in the country.

AIMS

  • The purpose of this campaign is to organise maternal workshops for pregnant women.
  • They are provided with free fetus scan and maternal laboratory tests. These two are very essential for both pregnant women and their unborn babies. However the fact is that not every expectant mother can afford, hence the important of this campaign.
  • They are educated on the importance of antenatal visits, nutrition, hygiene, signs and dangers of Preeclampsia.
  • They are given other freebies such as Maternity Pads and other Womchild Foundation Souvenirs. (Such items are subjected to the availability to donated Funds).

We hope to reach out to 200 women at Acoto Lantey a poorer suburb in the Greater Accra Region on this Campaign with your support. Kindly visit our website on www.womchild.org to know more about what we do and other projects that we engage in. We look forward for your contributions and support.
