WOMAN & VULNERABLE CHILDREN HOME OUTREACH PROGRAM (A Gift of Life)

PURPOSE:

To provide single mothers of vulnerable children in Uganda, the opportunity and education to grow their own chickens to help with school fees, medication and to end starvation.

METHOD/PLAN OF ACTION:

On 21st of September

African Street Kids Dreams has purchased and provided 200 chicks to 4 single mothers in the program, each woman received 50 chicks kroilers and 50 chicks Broilers after 3 weeks later on 12th of October.

We will also provide 2 month of feed for each recipient and Vaccinations from 7 days to 8 weeks.

ASKD will return to complete bi-weekly check ups for 2 months on these chickens to ensure their healthy development and any needs are met, beginning 2 weeks after chicks received.

After 2 months in the program, each woman will return 25 grown chickens to ASKD. We will then sell these grown chickens and purchase new chicks to be given to the next recipients in the program.

COSTS OF PLAN OF ACTION.

CHICKEN PURCHASE COST:

It costs 50penny per 1 day old kroiler chick and 68penny per Broiler Chick,

200 Kroiler chicks costs is £112

200 Broiler Chicks costs is- £136

400 chicks Total cost is £248

ASKD will provide the cost of the 8 vaccinations to every recipient for 10 weeks costs £72 per month.

CHICKEN FEED COSTS

Note:The future goal of African SKD is to purchase chicken feed in bulk instead of Kilos to save money, this all depends on the support we receive to run this program.

Currently feed is purchased in Kilo’s

We will provide the chicks food from 1 day old to 8 weeks so they can grow healthy and strong.

The cost of feed for 400 chicks (1day to 2 weeks old , they eat pellets) is £145.

The cost of feed for 400 chicks (2 weeks to 8 weeks old is £222

Approximate cost to feed 400 chicks for 2 months is £348.

Biweekly costs will change according to the age of chicks, increase in food requirements and the amount of chicks in the program increasing.

Please note feed prices are subject to change by supplier. We will keep this updated.

TRANSPORTATION:

ASKD have a Boda Boda (motorcycle) to travel to communities, fuel costs is £80 per 2 month.

We feel it is important to use photography as a method of tracking the progress of the project so we can share with our friends and supporters. We currently do not own a professional camera. We hope to get our own camera as soon as possible, to solve the ongoing cost of camera rentals.

CAMERA RENTAL COSTS : is £14 per day.

Extra income allows families to pay for things like their children’s schooling

This is SO exciting. Everybody who gets chickens gives some of the grown to another family in need…so the impact is exponential!

Program Recipient responsibilities:

To care for and ensure the chicks grow and remain healthy and strong. To return, 25 grown chickens after 2 months, back to ASKD to keep the program running.

The project needs routine checkups. This is very challenging at the moment due to fuel costs to travel back and forth between communities, and cost of feed.. Once this is all taken care of, we believe everything will be kept running efficiently.
