Wise-To-Rent Textbooks for HS students earning college credit

Wise-To-Rent is a fundraising event to assist junior and senior high school students who are enrolled in the Burke Middle College program. These students complete their high school requirements while also attending college courses and earning college credit at Western Piedmont Community College. There is no tuition expense for these students, however, the cost of college textbooks is NOT covered. The "Wise-To-Rent" rental program intends to purchase a limited supply of varied textbooks for the most common college-level general education courses and allow students to rent them for a semester at an average price of $15 - $20. A small pilot program of this concept was launched this past school year and has proven to be a viable and affordable option for the student to have the required textbooks. The Burke Middle College program accepts sixty HS juniors per year, each committing themselves to the two-year program. Many of the students graduate this HS program having also earned an associate degree from the community college.
