Winter Clothing for Nepal Boys

Our Fundraising Goal:

Hi! My name is Asmita and I live in a small boy’s home just outside Pokhara, Nepal. My goal is to raise some money to buy warm winter clothes for the eight boys that live here!

The Home

We are a small boy’s home located in a village just outside Pokhara, Nepal. The home is run by a small local committee who established the home for abandoned boys as well as boys whose parents cannot adequately take care of them. The home cares for the boys by providing them with a safe place to live, food, and materials they need for school.

Right now, there are eight boys living at the home as well as my mother (Ama), myself and a few small bunnies. The home’s committee pay my mum a minimal wage to take care of the boys – cook, clean, make sure they get to school! I moved into the home as a child with my mum twelve years ago. I help her with all her work and, having now gone through school, I also help the boys with their homework. As for the bunnies, two arrived with one of the boys and have been multiplying ever since! The boys take good care looking after them every day.

The boys range from 8-17 years old. They love to play sports, card games, board games, and watching some TV. Most of them love doing their homework as well!

Why do we need help?

Through local fundraising, the home’s committee and Ama are able to provide the boys with the basics (accommodation, food, a carer and materials for our government school). Through word of mouth, foreigners occasionally visit the home to help them with homework and sometimes bring toys or games with them (cards, balls and badminton sets). But one thing that we are desperately short of is CLOTHING.

Clothing is a big expense. It is difficult for the local community, or for that one tourist who visits, to provide ALL the boys with clothing - which is why it is seldomly received.

Winter has arrived in Nepal and the boys are very short of warm clothing. I am hoping to fund raise enough money so that each boy gets winter clothes to stay warm through the rest of this season and future seasons. The winter clothes that you can help fund will not go to waste – once the boys grow out of them, they usually get past down in the next season.

I hope to buy jumpers, jackets, warm trousers, socks and beanies for all eight of them.
