Why use Windward?

Heat and sweat get in the way of everything, from your work life to your play life, from your job to your hobbies. If you want to stay comfortable and stay effective at everything you do, then you need to stay cool. Of course, staying cool is much easier said than done, especially during the dog days of summer. How do you do it? How do you do it conveniently? How do you do it easily?

Let’s admit it, we know the struggles like ones above. Working in scorching heat drains stamina, disturbs attention and produces a drenched smell. An outside environment without AC, and frequently adjusting fans is physically and mentally disturbing task. Our solution is Windward, a hands-free wearable fan that you can take with you everywhere you go. Windward reduces the heat that you feel, making you more efficient and directing air flow from the front to the back of your body. It stays stable as you move around, so you can climb, jog, or run without ever worrying about knocking it out of place. You simply place Windward on your neck, and the our system will adjust the direction of the air for your comfort. It’s all based on the Coanda effect, and as you will see very quickly after you put it on, it works impressively well!

How it is designed?

How Windward operates?

We initially tried to make Dyson’s bladeless fan wearable on the neck. However, portable battery lacked efficiency to operate a fan with high-pressure wind.
Accordingly, instead of increasing the wind pressure, we found ways to increase speed and adjust the direction of the wind.

Coanda effect suggests that fluid jet tends to stay attached to a convex surface. Based on this observation, we developed an open duct and designed a suitable propeller to maximize the effect.

Air from Windward flows on the surface of the open duct, even towards the back of the body without the high-pressure fluid flow.

Team Story

Hi. I am Taewoo. I had to spend substantial effort to develop Windward.
For nearly a year, I repeated designing the body and the duct of Windward and destroying them and tested tens and hundreds of propellers. I also faced unexpected difficulties while preparing for mass production.

The whole process was full of challenges, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Without generous help from many people, the birth of Windward would not have been possible. Really thanks to my friends, partnership company, South Korea government and my parentsI still have a long way to go, but I also believe in my potential. I will continue to grow as I have no matter what obstacles are ahead of me.

Your support will definitely be of great help.
