This May, we are heading out on a Service and Learning Pilgrimage through the U.K.-- an out-of-the-box mission trip.
What does that mean you may ask?
"Service"- We will be spending 4 months volunteering at a Centre for peace and Reconciliation at the Iona Community in Iona, Scotland. Here, we will be partnering with the organization to help teach groups and individuals what peace and reconciliation looks like in our lives today through our faith. This dispersed Christian ecumenical community has been working for peace and social justice, rebuilding of community and the renewal of worship for years, and we are excited to serve there to further their mission.
"Learning"-- The latter part of our journey will take place in Guildford, UK at an organization called 24-7 Prayer, taking part in their discipleship program called The Vision Course. This course is located in an area of the UK that is especially in need of wholeness and healing. We will be taking part in building relationships with the people of the community, praying for and with them, living among them, while learning about prayer, justice and local mission. Following the training phase, we will be embarking on missions trips to partner with other 24-7 communities in Europe. This will either be the clubbing capital of Ibiza, a gypsy camp in Macedonia or a church plant in Greece. We will be joining long-term teams at the frontline of pioneering mission, bringing light where there’s darkness and sharing the good news about Jesus to the last, the least and the lost.
We are going on this pilgrimage because we believe Jesus is calling us to a life of serving and learning together as a couple. We want to actively learn from other Christians involved in prayer, justice, creativity, and missional living. We want to serve in intentional communities practicing radical hospitality, care for God’s creation, justice for the poor, and sharing the good news of the Gospel.
Partnering with us financially will mean that people in need of healing and peace in a wider or more personal context will be able to find that in the name of Jesus. It will mean partnering with an organization who exists to live out Jesus' calling on our lives as Christians in very real and tangible ways in broken communities throughout the world. It will allow us to further examine the calling we feel God has on our lives as a couple.
Will you partner with us?
"But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you."
