My name is Stacey and I am studying Veterinary Technology at San Juan College. My life passion and calling is to be a veterinary nurse at an animal sanctuary outside of the United States, preferably in Africa. I have the chance to get a step closer to my dream by volunteering at N/a'an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary in Nambia, Africa in December, 2013. South Africa is the country with the third highest biodiversity rate in the world. Despite these natural riches, there is very little public funding for the conservation of the indigenous wildlife and its habitat, and much of it depends on private initiatives and volunteers. N/a'an ku sê rehabilitates orphaned and injured wildlife back into its natural environment. The center works closely with the local communities in relocating and treating injured wildlife. They provide a safe sanctuary for lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, caracals and baboons. N/a'an ku sê also provides a home to a bat eared fox called Ore, a duiker called Sylvie, a porcupine named Coco, a vervet monkey called Scarlett as well as several meerkats, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and rabbits. As a volunteer, I will help with the daily care and minor veterinary treatment of the wildlife at the center. I will assist with project work which may include building enclosures for animals or digging trenches. Daily chores include preparing meals and feeding all of the animals on the farm, cleaning the animal enclosures, and monitoring their behavior. I am trying to raise money to assist with the volunteer fee and flights. The volunteer fee is $1,200 and goes directly back into the project providing employment, education and accommodation to the local Bushman community and ensuring the rescue, survival and rehabilitation of the animals. The funds enable N/a‘an ku sê to continue running the projects as well as covering all volunteer food and accommodation costs. I will be obtaining a reduced flight rate through “Flyforgood.com” which discounts flights exclusively for international non-profit travel. The flight costs $2,325.00 and is more than the volunteer fee so I am hoping to raise some funds for the flight as well. Please help me fulfill my passion and life-calling by helping animals in Africa. I am hoping to raise a total $3,000.00. No donation is too small and I appreciate any amount you can donate. For those who donate $10.00 or more I am happy to send pictures of the animals I work with and the African savannah. Thank you!
