WHY IS A SENIOR GIVING AWAY HER HEIRLOOMS TO STRANGERS?

PERSONAL HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

I am a 66 years young, female senior, and a hard-working woman with good values. I was born and raised in the Maritime Provinces in Canada. I have two grown sons in their 40's, one of which I have no contact with anymore, and the other one was recently in an accident where he damaged his back and his ankle while working for someone who didn't have any insurance.  It has left him permanently semi-disabled and is now living with me, and helps me around and about the house all he can.   I worked hard all my life and the one and only thing I ended up owning in this world is my home (for which I am very grateful).    

However, I am now in grave danger of losing my home. The house is a 3 bedroom detached 2 storey with 1,400 sq.ft. of total living space and was built 75 years ago.

All my life I've been a giver and find it humbling and strange when I am the one needing the help. I never dreamed I would ever be in this position at this stage in my life. I always thought my golden years would be so much different, however, life doesn't always turn out the way you would like or had planned

and so, here I am.........

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF WHAT I'M ASKING FOR AND WHY

For the past 5 years I have desperately been trying to hold onto my home by taking in boarders, which barely paid the bills. I have been sleeping on the coach on the main floor, and my son sleeps on a coach in the basement.

The home is in dire need of major repairs and if not done soon will become unliveable. I am on a fixed income; have no pension; no medical plan; no savings; no spouse; and receive the guaranteed income supplement, and can't afford the costly repairs.

My dilemma has made me astutely aware of the fact that many other seniors are in the same situation or are even worse off than myself. Many seniors are victims of our society due to no fault of their own, and statistics state:

•             Homelessness and poverty in female seniors is on the increase.
•             Elder abuse;
•             Seniors home invasions;
•             Seniors losing their homes;
•             Seniors being neglected and disgarded;
•             Suicides in seniors are also on the increase, when people lose a home, ,and/ or become dependent on society, they lose their dignity, self-worth, and are in despair.

While all of the above are increasing at an alarming rate, Government assistance for seniors is declining as the majority of the population becomes older and Governments funds are depleted, and no plan on record as to how it will have an impact on future society and tax-payers

MY GOAL is to be able to make the necessary repairs in stages to bring my home up to code, giving me the opportunity to stay in my home and live modestly

but more importantly I will be able to take in and help other seniors who have nobody or nowhere decent to live.

They will also have the opportunity to live in a clean, warm and comfortable environment in their golden years, and a place they can call home.

I will share what little I have and try to help them regain their independence, dignity, and self-esteem.

WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO

I have received a quote of $20K to do the electrical work.

•     The first stage will be to bring the electrical up to code, and safe
•     The second stage will be to put in insulation, new windows, and a back door
•     The third stage will be to convert to electrical the old and non-functional and unsafe

     oil heating system and put in a small bedroom for my son with a good mattress for his back.

•      The fourth and final stage will be to tear down and rebuild the rotting deck, landing 

        and stairs and replace the dirt floor underneath with a cement slab.

Any help you can give me in any way at all, would be greatly appreciated, not just for myself but for other seniors who would also benefit from your generosity..as your contribution will give people a whole new and positive outlook on life.
