When A Peso Counts

“How are you Ate Gelli? How is Matty doing?”

I looked at my phone waiting excitedly for my sister-in-law’s response.

“Ana, there is something I need to say,” she responded promptly.

“Are you pregnant?”

And I am smiling deep in my heart trying to imagine a sweet newborn baby.

“I have a breast cancer– stage 2!”

We continued talking via messenger but I am crying silently and trying to speak of hope yet I am deeply sorrowed by this news.

Since that day, the battle is still on-going but with a new development. The cancer is now on stage 3 and so with our faith going stronger and deeper.

As the bill rises and expenses cause us to worry, we feel the grace and love of the Lord flowing immensely.

I’ve realized that not only my sister is having the cancer, but we - her family are also having this sickness.

We try to console each one and continuously remind ourselves of the promises of God.

But more than that, we constantly give and give and give love, hope and assistance to Ate Gelli.
