Wheels To Freedom

I need to raise money towards purchasing a car that is specially adapted for my husband to drive from his wheelchair and has hand controls.

My husband has Polio from early childhood and now has Post Polio Syndrome. He is now wheelchair bound and con no longer drive an automatic car from the drivers seat. We are looking to raise enough money for a deposit to put down on a car that he will be able to drive and take me and my power chair and oxygen.

I have cardiac problems and cannot walk more than a few yards without getting severely out of breath and often need oxygen to help me breath. Unfortunately this and other medical problems mean that I am not able to drive. At the moment we have to rely on wheelchair taxis which are not always available at the time we need it, for example for a doctors' appointment. We are limited to the times and days that the vehicle is available, the places we can go and the time. We can only travel to local areas and only stay for a couple of hours at a time. It is of course, very expensive and is not an option when I need to go to hospital appointments in London up to 4 times a year.

If we were to purchase a car of this nature ourselves it would cost at least £35,000 - which we could never afford without the help and support of friends, family and that of kind people like yourselves. If we were able to raise just £15,000 it would go a long way to making our dream come true. To us it would mean we would be able to come and go as we please, go where we want, when we want and not be restricted to the local area and a timescale. To us it would be Wheels To Freedom.
