Campaign Story
Sam is 23 years of age and started using a wheelchair at the age of 13, we found out 2 years ago he was misdiagnosed at 13 and has Parkinson's Disease which is rare for someone his age. He is now wheelchair and bed bound and can not walk at all. The Dystonia in his right foot is so bad that it has started to compromise the blood flow. His foot is completely turned over. Sam struggles every day with horrific pain and Oral Morph hardly touches it, his memory is affected badly by the Parkinson's but the one thing that shines through is his sense of humour and we giggle constantly about his condition. We need a wheel chair that tilts back, which will help with his choking and one where we can raise his feet to help with the blood flow. We can not get him one that is electric as the rigidness in his hands prevents him from using it and after months of searching I have finally found one that is manual that we can push. Sadly the cost is £899, I have shopped around and found the cheapest place, We have tried to get help with the wheelchair from the authorities but funding on the Isle of Wight has been cut to virtually zero. Sam's needs are constant and most of our money is taken up on other medical equipment he needs so I will be doing some fund raising to help with the cost. I'm a crafter and make tutu's and other various craft items so will be doing some specail ones to help.
