I am fundraising for a one-day conference in Scotland in September 2018 to highlight the plight of the Curlew and to find ways to reverse its decline. Curlews are disappearing very fast, we have lost half the number of Curlews in the UK over the last 20 years. This is the final of four independent conferences I have set up throughout the UK and Ireland, others have been in S England, S Ireland and Wales.
Remaining independent of any organisation, but with support from many, has been very successful, allowing a great range of people to attend and forge partnerships. This one day meeting will bring people together from all sectors - landholders, conservationists, farmers, NGOs, game and shooting and passionate individuals. Everyone has a part to play in helping Curlews thrive once more in Scotland.
Please help me hold this special event
The Curlew is woven into Scottish heritage, Robert Burns wrote: I never heard the solitary whistle of curlew on a summer noon without feeling an elevation of soul.’

On World Curlew Day we held a Curlew exhibition and talk to raise funds and awareness for the plight of the Curlew at St Lawrence Church on the banks of the Blackwater in Essex. We have made a donation to the BTO Curlew appeal and would also like to support Mary Colwell with her plans for this conference and her on going conservation work. Well done Mary!

Hi Mary. I chipped in to crowdfund your book, which I've now read - very good! - and am sending a copy to friends in Cumbria who live in a 'Curlew House'. And today I've seen your Guardian piece, so well done again. Tim
