Campaign Story
Pratibha is a 27 year old, very witty, happy go lucky wife of my colleague Rohit.
We didn’t know much about her, till a few days back when Rohit reached us, asking for a leave. Now we only talk about her and Rohit day in and out. Guess what was the leave for? He would be getting a surgery done to remove his kidney. Actually, he is ‘selling’ his kidney. Why ?
To fund some part of the treatment as Pratibha has recently been diagnosed with Gastric Cancer. It causes unbearable abdominal pain, vomits blood and already has an unbelievable weight loss. Just last year she was a happy working-woman and they were a simple happy couple living a simple average life like you and me but just in a few months, she is totally bed ridden and literally fighting for life every moment.
Apart from regular Gastroscopic examinations and CT scans needed for the treatment, doctor now advises to go for removal of Omentum and take treatment of chemotherapy and radiation therapies.
This round of treatment will cost approximately Rs.13, 25,000 ($ 20,000).
That’s the approximate total for 20 X 10 X 100. $20/ meal over 10 meals of just 100 of us.
We are overwhelmed with Rohit’s commitment for Pratibha and are doing our best to stop him from selling his Kidney. For now, we have put together the funds that he would have sold the kidney for but inspite of our best contribution and him having spent all his savings already, there is $20K more to put together.
Once he has this fund, it will get him to focus on taking care of Pratibha in all other ways that a person living with Cancer needs. That’s something only he can do. And needless to say, if he is around – healthy and only focused on her, it will give her all the strength to fight back too.
Rohit has his parents and brother dependent on him as well and the time that he is loosing on his career at this age and time of global economy, it may be ir-repairable.
We know Rohit from work and trust us when we say this but he is an asset to our organization and an intelligent analyst. He will be able to build his life once Pratibha is safe.
We all know what said and unsaid strength family has for each of us.
Crowd-funding was a term for us so far but thankfully never had to try raising funds before this. But now, we are trying every possible means to get what we as ‘others’ can still possibly do for this family while they focus on recovering and healing and moving on to a life which has all of them in it and healthy.
Wanted to reach out to all of you and your friends and check if you may be one of the 100 people who may be willing to give up one or several $20 meals that will just do good to Pratibha and Rohit ?
Please contribute if you can, whatever little or more is comfortable and regardless of the contribution here, do have them in your prayers.
Gratitude and Regards
Friends of Pratibha – Rohit
