Hello,
My name is Ian Jeffrey Alicante and I am fund raising for the medical treatments for the spine of my dear wife, Cristine Anne Bajandi Alicante.
Tine is a wonderful wife and mother to our beautiful daughter Andi, who is now 5. Before her back complications, Tine was a head nurse of the Neo Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Marikina Doctors Hospital and Medical Center in Pasig City, Philippines. It takes a special person to become a nurse, but that’s even more true for those who become NICU nurses. Tine is that kind of person and more.
HER STORY:
Last November 2017, while taking care of our daughter Andi, Tine felt a sharp pain in her back. Doctors told us that she herniated her lumbar spine L5S1. She had physical therapy up until January 2018 where she had her first surgery, right hemi-laminotomy, discectomy and neuro-foraminotomy at her lumbar spine (L5-S1) due to herniated disc for radiculopathy but this did not help improve her condition and instead it became worse.
In March 2018, I rushed Tine to the ER where she was admitted in the hospital due to burning pain and her persistent back spasms. She was ordered to do more physical therapy and given yet more medications.
Despite all of Tine’s hard work to get better, the incident happened again in July 2018. This time she was having excruciating pelvic and buttocks pain.
For more than a year after the surgery she have undergone conservative treatment modalities that includes NSAIDS, muscle relaxants, oral steroids, series of further physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, and trigger point and steroid injections but these did not really improve her condition. Presently, she is still having continuous chronic low back, shoulder and neck pain.
Last year, we have consulted several spine doctors here in the Philippines who advised us to undergo one level spinal fusion. However, the risk of adjacent disc disease is high (levels above and below the diseased disc can deteriorate if one segment of the spine is fused). Hence, more spine operation will be expected in the future so we did not push through. We continued with the conservative treatments while searching for other better options.
A year passed since starting this fund raising, we sent her medical reports to pertinent spine specialists in Europe and Germany with the same opinion that we have another option, an Artificial Disc Replacement or ADR on the same lumbar spine - putting third generation artificial disc implants (LP-ESP) to replace the unhealthy disc of her spine to fully help remedy the severe pain and body compensation she is experiencing up until today.
The cost of this kind of surgery is a lot because this kind of surgery is not yet done locally in the Philippines and is only being done successfully in Europe and Germany.
With the above, I am humbly knocking in your kind heart to help us on this trying time.
We already exhausted our precious savings for the first operation and post-operative expenses such as medicines, additional MRI, X-rays, CT scans, blood tests, doctor’s consultation fees. Your kind and altruistic help is our only hope.
MESSAGE FROM TINE:
“Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. My efforts to be better is for my sweet daughter and my loving husband. They are the reason I am still fighting. Lastly, I still want to pursue my job as a NICU nurse which I am passionate about. God will be my stronghold and my guide."
