We’re raising £1,200 to Aid the improvement of mental healthcare in SL

I will embark on a volunteering expedition to Sri Lanka with SLV for 5 weeks on a mental health placement. Mental health problems are rarely talked about and in a country such as Sri Lanka suffering individuals are stigmatised and abandoned in mediocre care facilities with little to offer for its residents.

The mental health placement aims to aid the recovery of those suffering from mental health issues and in particular: psychological healing related to tsunami and post war reconciliation, creative therapy and Post traumatic stress disorder. As well as these SLV also provides youth and children teaching projects so teaching English to a group of children or even adults as well as special needs projects.

SLV does not endorse voluntourism so money raised is not used for day trips, flight costs or holiday periods. All money raised goes towards specialised training, living costs and paying the families we stay with for our accommodation. Any donation of any amount is very much appreciated.
