My name is Dalelyn Burbary and I have set up this fundraiser for my daughter-in-law Wendy (pictured above in her brave first outing wearing a wig).   She recently has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. The cancer grew quickly over 6 months, close to the chest wall & invading 4 of 6 lymph nodes that were removed.  Her current healthcare insurance is paying a portion of her medical bills, however, there are many out-of-pocket expenses. These expenses include co-pays, deductibles, prescriptions, and transportation costs (such as gas and parking fees) to and from tests, doctor appointments, and treatment.

Wendy has been a stay-at-home mom for the past eighteen years along with very part time in the child care field for 12 years.  She also began donating her time at the local elementary school tutoring children who were falling behind but not classified as special needs since she was 19 years old.  Although babysitting full time since June 2012 had provided a very small amount of money, this money was used to help cover some of the above expenses.  Her oncologists will not allow her to continue babysitting (exposure to children would cause serious health risks with her chemotherapy-weakened immune system).  Her 1/2 sister battled breast cancer for over a year and lost her battle at Wendy's current age of 42, therefore the doctors have Wendy on an aggressive treatment plan rendering her mostly in a weakened state and much pain.

Even though she & their son are still living in the family home, her husband (my step-son) is not contributing financially to any medical expenses including the yearly Family deductible. Nor has he driven her to any appointments, met any doctors or offered any support of any kind at all. She welcomes the divorce he set upon her since she proved herself correct when she discovered emails & texts from other women for the last few years.  She is still on his medical insurance plan which will cost her $435 monthly to continue after the divorce is final in 30 to 60 days. Other family members are only able to provide minimal, if any, financial assistance.

A local news reporter interviewed Wendy at the Wig shop that created her wig.  The shops owners know Wendy's story, adore her and asked her to come in and be their model customer for the interview and their website.  The news segment from May 16th, 2013 can be seen here: www.clickondetroit.com. In the search bar on the news website, type in: Local company boosts self esteem for cancer patients.

Any donation, even the smallest amount would be appreciated. Our current goal is $3,000 and we hope to raise this by Aug 26, 2013. Donations of $10.00 or more are eligible to receive a handmade elastic-fit beaded breast cancer awareness bracelet.
