Our little Warrior is fighthing another tough battle. Currently in the Pedia ICU of The Doctor's Hospital, diagnosed with Aspiration Pneumonia.

He is indeed tough, as we are on our third day in the ICU and weaning off from the ventilator started yesterday with good results. Hopefully, Xavi will pull through and be strong enough to breath on his own.

I know we have gone through this before, and it pains us to be in this predicament and feel weak for our baby, but we are awestruck to see him despite now that he is striving and has responses and movement rather than none at all.

To those who do not know our Xavi, here's a brief history:

Markko Aundre Xebastian was born on July 26, 2016 to parents Maki Severino and Goldie Caunca, diagnosed with Congenital Hydrocephalus secondary to Aqueductal Stenosis. This means that the ventricles in his brain are narrower than normal, thus the accumulation of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) is creating pressure and injuring his brain. Xavi underwent his first surgery last August 24, 2016, a Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt, where a tube (shunt) was inserted into his skull to aid the circulation and drainage of the excess CSF, he was 29 days old then. He had a very good and fast recovery.

The series of hospitalization after his operation started October, where he had his first seizure episode, and his maintenance medication started. November, he again was admitted for amoebiasis. Maki's insurance and Goldie's Philhealth was of big help with the insurance coverage and deductions from the hospital bills.

On January 2017, he was hospitalized again and had his shunt removed due to Ventriculitis (infection) and had it drained. He also underwent a venous cutdown on his left jugular as it was already difficult to have a patent IV line on his limbs. We received utmost help and assistance from our family, friends, our church, and most especially to generous, thoughtful strangers who we are truly grateful for. This gave us purpose to give back in any way we can because we may not be able to return all that was given to us, I know giving to those in need and those who are experiencing something, is our answer.

A year has passed without any distress from Xavi. 18 months of no hospitalization. No sickness. We hit the milestone of his second birthday, with a super hero theme, which describes Xavi so well. Our Superman.

Just this August 14, Tuesday 3 in the morning, Xavi suddenly experienced fever at 39.6 Celcius along with coffee ground vomitus, and tachypnea. We brought him to Bacolod to have him checked and we ended up to go straight the the Emergency Room instead. He was restless since the fever started in the early morning of the 14th up until we got settled in our hospital room. Xavi wasn't able to sleep well unless I held his hand or held him upright in front of me. Hooked on a pulse oximeter and oxygen mask at 10L/min

On the 15th, Wednesday, his oxygen saturation dropped and he was intubated. As a nurse, I was on auto-pilot mode.

Since then, Xavi's resting. He's stable and doing good. No problems, rest assured and unlike last year where we had a fundraising through t-shirt and pillow How Big Is Your Brave sales, we humbly ask for a little help donation in cash or in kind. Your little help can go a long way. Thank you!

Most importantly, please help us pray for Xavi. I know Xavi is strong, stronger than I am, that's for sure and God is with this little guy. We may love him so much, too much, but I know the Lord loves his little warrior more. Please be with us in prayers together with me, Maki, and the help of our church, Victory.

I am and will be forever grateful. No one fights alone.
