The Roxas Softball team was established in 2014 to help empower the young girls of General Roxas Elementary School, a public school in Quezon City, Philippines, through sports. Founded and managed by a public school teacher with the help of individual and organizational champions (or "Angels" as the team calls them), the program aims to provide its members with opportunities to learn the values of discipline, camaraderie, and sportsmanship; to participate in a fun and safe after-school activity; and to discover their talents and potential. Beyond aiding in their current development, the program also hopes to help the members gain better access to secondary and tertiary education through scholarships.
Now on its 5th season, the program has grown from a school-based elementary level team, to a community-based team that includes both elementary and high school students, with the goal of someday becoming a city-wide program that will cater to other softball teams in the municipality.
Funding for this program goes to coaches' salaries, tournament fees, team uniforms, equipment, transportation, and a monthly food pack for regular players to help support their families.
