We Stand For the Teen Mothers

His sister was impregnated at her age of 17 and had to dropout of the year four of Secondary Schools. Now that she has a baby and not from a fortune family, she has to struggle with the rest of family members to see if they can bring something on the table and without any hope for the future. This sister of my best friend like other Teen mothers in Rwanda are struggling for their and little angels (babies survival) without any hope for the future. Her story was a stimulus for me to sit with the other members of Executive Team of Community Health Boosters, a youth led NGO, and design a charity campaign aiming at helping the teen mothers to overcome these life hardships caused by taking huge responsibilities at their early age and build back their hopes for a better future. Amidst this Covid-19 Pandemic, the numbers of teenage pregnancies have been dramatically increasing more especially among school girls. As an effect, many of them dropped out schools, others chased out of their homes and dumped by their perpetrators as well. Due to this, some have been engaging in survival sex, pushed into forced marriages and labor forces to find money for taking care of their babies while others are wondering around with pregnancies. This has been increasing more in the rural areas and the funds that will be raised are going to be used in supporting these adolescents in the journey of pregnancy until they give birth and help them to join back the schools and Vocational Training Centers. Among the supports to be given include donation of food and other supplements and hygiene materials during Antenatal and Postnatal Periods, and school materials and fees for them to join back the schools. The funds which will be raised is expected to help 143 teen mothers in Northern Province of Rwanda.
