Litter prevention campaigns may come and go – but Trash Knights in Turks and Caicos is willing to born and stay. If anything, it’s even more relevant today than its ever been.
The Trash Knights mission is to bring communities together to clean and reduce waste. We would like to do this through:
-Involve more and more people in the community to pick up trash and motivate others to do the same. By spending a few hours together cleaning up, people gain a profound understanding of the need to reduce and better manage waste.
-We aim to engage children through a kids’ programme, connecting environmental values with hands-on experience of the impact that plastic trash has on the ocean. Adults learn through doing, with activities and workshops provided by volunteers.
-We aim to motivate people to break free from plastic and become Trash Knights in their everyday lives. With consistently positive messaging, and a philosophy of “small steps”, we aim to remove the barriers to change and normalise a vision of a zero-waste world.
Every piece of trash that is taken away to be recycled or deposited in a landfill means there is one less dangerous item for birds, turtles or whales to swallow. Cleanups also restore these creatures’ habitats here in Turks and Caicos.
