Help Me Help Them! Recovery after Hurricane Matthew!

Hi. I’m Samantha (Smith) Kelly and I grew up in Camden across the driveway from my grandparents, JW and Odell Watkins. Their little green house slowly expanded over the years and has been there for as long as I can remember. It has raised children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, hosted EVERY Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas and WELCOMED everyone that knocked on the front door.

The LOVE that pours from every crevice of this house is due to my grandparents, JW and Odell Watkins and my uncle, Jerry who lives with them. They are a contributing part of the community, members of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and are always helping others when they can. Grandpa could build you anything you could imagine, Grandma offers comfort and a kind word and Jerry would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

On the weekend of October 8, 2016, they felt the DEVASTATING WRATH of a storm that wasn’t supposed to hit them. Hurricane Matthew traveled up the sound and completely flooded their yard causing water to rush into their house and stay. The water penetrated the walls, carpeting, furniture...anything on the floor up 6-8+ inches. Neighbors and church members quickly came to their aid after the water receded, striping their home of everything down to the bare walls. My grandparents refuse to leave the empty shell of their home. Right now they sit and wait for government assistance not knowing what will happen or what to do.

The funds raised will be used to help them REBUILD, RECOVER and REFURNISH their home and/or help them in whatever direction they need. My grandparents are now in their later years, and I want them to live the rest of their lives in their home. JW, Odell and Jerry would NEVER ask for help from others on their own. This is my way to GIVE BACK to a family who has given so much to my family and others.
