The Yawanawa people of Mutum are in dire need of clean water.

The community is facing a critical shortage of this essential resource, which is putting their health and way of life at risk.
Major rivers in the Amazon Basin of Brazil are contaminated and therefore filtration and water systems are needed to ensure safe drinking water for the communities.

Your donation will not only help to improve the health and well-being of the community but also support their sovereignty over their land and resources.

Together we can make a real difference 💙

What your donation goes toward

• A $10,000 donation can provide a new deep water well (30-50 m) that will serve up to 1000 people with clean water.

• A $5,000 donation can provide a 2 large 4 stage water filter system and 2 storage tanks, ensuring that the water is safe to drink - exchange retreat with Curawaka in the Amazon - more details to come.

• A $2,500 donation can provide a sustainable energy solution such as solar pumps and panels, helping to reduce the community’s dependence on fossil fuels.

• A $1,000 donation can provide a grey water conservation system, creating 100,000 liters of clean water serving 33,000 people for one day, or 1,111 people for one month and 93 people (30 families) for one year.

• A $250 donation can provide a 5,000L storage tank for the village and 25 water bottles, providing clean water for 23 people (5-8 families) for a month.

• A $100 donation can provide 1000m piping for the community.

• A $50 donation can provide 5 people with drinkable water for a month.

Fundraiser campaign in support of the
Yawanawa People of Mutum

by Curawaka, WaterNow, Mose & Nixi Music

We are going back to Mutum!

After the very successful completion of the ‘Water is Life’ project installing a 4 stage water filtration system in Aldeia Mutum, Curawaka and WaterNow are going back to the jungle!

On the request of Chief Matsini and Tashka Yawanawa we plan on returning to Rio Gregório in May 2023 for a bigger and even more impactful phase 2:

Objectives for Phase II

  1. Our main objective is to serve 36,728 inhabitants and their guests clean drinking water for the upcoming 30 years by installing water filters for 100 family houses and community areas.
  2. We will provide over 1,000,000 liters of clean drinking water per village.
  3. We will improve their Energy independence by installing larger solar systems to avoid usage of generators for their water systems and thus avoid negative impact on the environment.
  4. We aim for long term impact for the community by integrating the water technology in the local community via education and system integration.
  5. We will install a minimum of 10 new filtration systems and 4 new sanitation systems.

To make this possible we need to raise the additional 25,000 dollars

Having clean water to drink is the most basic need for human health yet today more than 30 % of the world's population lack access to clean drinking water. Water is life and a fundamental human right.

Indigenous People make up less than 5% of the world’s population, yet hold more than 80% of the entire world’s biodiversity on their lands. The Yawanawa people live in the North-East part of Brazil. They are one of the many tribes in the region whose living conditions are severely affected by the impact of modern civilization. They are blessed with the lush Amazon jungle as their home and vital source.

One of the greatest needs in the Yawanawa village Mutum is access to clean drinking water. The community has gotten all its drinking water traditionally from the river Rio Gregorio, but due to the cities and industries that are getting closer, the rivers are polluted and not safe to drink. The Brazilian government has provided a well for the villages, but the supply is limited and the water is not at all clean enough to meet proper standards of drinking water. We wish to give the Yawanawa people of Mutum a hand with improving their quality of water and thus their standard of living.

Who are we?

We are Curawaka, a world music group who has been spending a lot of the time in various indigenous communities in the Amazon, whose ancestral music and culture have inspired us immensely.

We feel the strong urge to give a hand to our friends in the indigenous communities in this difficult time. We have supported the communities financially already with funds coming from selling our CDs, yet we feel we can do more. To have clean water and general protection for the planet´s waters is a main prayer in our hearts and lives.

The name "Curawaka" means "heal the water" in Yawanawa language!

Curawaka & WaterNow

We are happy to be partnering with WaterNow, an amazing organization dedicated to improving conditions of drinking water for indigenous peoples all over the planet. A group of inspired environmentalists and engineers who were brought together by the shared vision of global water accessibility.

Since 2016 they have worked on water solutions in the Amazon rainforest, serving the Huni Kuin and Yawanawa people. In 2016, 2019 and 2022, they installed holistic village utility systems with solar systems.

“Our mission is simple: to have Clean Water Access for all people, especially focusing on indigenous villages and communities that might not have the resources or technology to be able to implement these systems by themselves” - WaterNow

We have been incredibly lucky on the project to be supported by the amazing artist and DJ Mose, who has made for the occasion a remix of the song «Te Nande», recorded by Curawaka, which they learned during their time spent with the Yawanawa tribe of Mutum, also featured on our album «Call of the Wild». Mose is a unique and brilliant artist who has brought the frequency of medicine and healing to the conscious dancefloor. He finds a way to fuse the organic elements of tribal traditions with modern production techniques in order to create an entrancing journey for both relaxed listeners and those eager to embody the movement. In order to support this campaign, Mose will gift a free digital download of his epic remix track to supporters of the campaign. He will even gift his entire discography for donations over 100 euros! Curawaka will gift a free digital download of our album «Call of the Wild» to everyone who makes a contribution to the campaign of 12 euros or more.

Mose supports the campaign

Nixi Music, record label of medicine music artists such as Curawaka, Chandra Lacombe and Ayla Shafer, has offered to release the «Curawaka -Te Nande (Mose Remix)» track without charging any of the normal administrative fees, so that maximal revenue for online streaming platforms can go to the Yawanawa people, even after the campaign is finished.

Water is life!

This project is a continuation of the vision and work of their ancestors: Matsinis's father (Raimundo Luis Tui Kuru Ãnihãu Xinã Yawanawa) and grandfather (Tata) the last Shaman of the elders.

We are so grateful for all the support and keep fighting and praying for a free and fair world, where Mother Nature and all her children live in peace, harmony, creativity, abundance and in alliance with each other.

Thank you for every single person contributing to this campaign, may your lives be blessed and your generosity come back in hundred folds.

Water is a gift, water is sacred, Water is life!
