Mismanaged glass intensifies wildfire, desertification, and climate change.
Mongolia is one of the developing countries located in Central Asia neighboring China and Russia. As an immature economy, incentive programs for waste recycling industries and waste management policies are not developed appropriately yet.
It is estimated that 873 tons of waste glass mixed with other types of waste are thrown away on 639 open dumping sites in a single day all over the country.
We are committed to retaining old or broken bottles, jars and glass scrap from glass pickers, restaurants, residential communities and beverage and window industries at the sources and have been gathering over 2200 tons of glass at our collection point with only one garbage truck in a one year.
Glass collection/ hauling services are carried out by only our team in the country and but we cannot reach other regions rather than the capital city Ulaanbaatar.
Although the first glass recycling industry was set up, required investments in construction and equipment have been delayed and postponed due to the global financial crisis, post-pandemic shock, and strict long limitations on the border between China and Mongolia. As delayed the funding, our activity has been staggering and shrunk.
Our priority is to withstand the challenges and keep on reaching our over 40 glass suppliers. Just learned and experienced citizens and employees of companies will be discouraged and all types of glass will be thrown away at the open dumping sites as usual before, if we stop.
Your generous support will truly encourage us.
