Help Mako beat Leukemia

Hi Everyone!

My partner, Marc Konrad Macalintal, Mako to many of his friends, has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a type of cancer in the blood that can spread quickly if not treated immediately and requires phases of chemotherapy. Our friends and I are setting up different fundraising events to help him in his fight to beat leukemia. It pains me every time I see him helpless to the effects of the treatment he is receiving. Aside from the toll on his physical and mental health, he still has to think of the burden of the medical expenses. I believe there's a lot of goodness in people out there. No matter how little help, when we come together, we can make a big difference in Mako's life.

Let me tell you something about Mako, this person who holds my heart. We met during college in UPLB, we're both members of an academic organization there. Who wouldn't fall for his charm and charisma? He's handsome, smart,and always know how to crack a joke in a crowd. There's no dull moment when you're with Mako. He's notorious as a 'chick magnet' to his brods in Alpha Phi Omega, and 'sari-sari' to his orgmates in UPLB MASS. He served as a leader in both organizations. Watching Mako work and think is one of the things that I liked about him. He’s a fighter and we’ll be here to fight with him in this battle

Last August 2019, Mako was rushed to the hospital due to his high fever and sore throat. Right then we were told that he needed a bone marrow biopsy/aspiration to confirm that he has leukemia and what type it is. After that sad day when it was confirmed in the biopsy, he immediately got induction chemo to kill the cancel cells. We stayed in the hospital for a month with countless blood transfusion and a lot of laboratories. This already drained his and their family's savings and costed almost over a million. On September 2019, he had another biopsy to confirm if the cancer is gone and if he has achieve remission. With God's mercy, all tests showed that he has no longer any sign of leukemia. It was such a good birthday gift for him as he was about to turn 32 that month. Still the fight isn't over because the doctor said to make sure that it won't come back and it's really all gone, he still needs to go on to the next phase of the treatment. He proceeded to the first of four consolidation chemotherapy and stayed in the hospital for a week.

Unfortunately, this past week, Mako has shown signs of possible relapse just days after post-remission. We rushed him to the hospital again to have blood transfusion. And just a day after we got out of the hospital, we had to rushed him back again because he was having a high fever. He will undergo another biopsy to confirm he really had relapsed, meaning the leukemia is back. :( This will also mean that he needs to repeat the first induction chemo in a much higher dosage. We are also preparing financially for the Bone Marrow Transplant that will give Mako a much higher chance in beating this leukemia.

It will be a long and challenging road for Mako, he is brave, he's a fighter. Please help us in this battle. I thank you with all my heart and God Bless.
